Not Wagon Wednesday yet, but I was looking at Jetta wagons and noticed the base model with the manual transmission is (supposedly) available for under 21k. And the dyno chart doesn't look too bad, especially considering it's just over 3100 lbs. Thoughts?

The 2.5 is not too shabby...but I would wait for the MKVII that is going to be lighter with the new 1.8T

All I'm seeing from this is that it is not all that worth it to get an AWE Tuning exhaust system if you would like more power/torque.

But sadly I don't know if we will be getting the R-line trim package.

I know. But the lines of the new car are still a huge improvement. Especially the rear end - I just don't really like the bulbous ass of the current Sportwagen.

Yes and no. It's the classic case of you need more parts to get more power out of an N/A engine. With turbos (Turbo diesel included) you're basically just cranking the boost. For the extra 3 K that you would put into a diesel, you could have this thing running well over 200whp.

My wife and I have a 2013 Mk6 Sedan with the 2.5 and it's awesome. Personally, I'm excited for the TDI wagon as a replacement for my Mini Cooper when that time happens.

Hah. This is for the significant other and I don't know how amenable she'd be to driving something that ... characterful. I've failed in my Oppo responsibilities, I know.

At least they're being completely honest with us. There may be greater gains with other cars with other systems they sell, but with this one they plainly say that "Maximum power gains are measured at 6HP@5950 rpms and 6TQ@2700 rpms.".

Yes, of course. I just thought it was funny that they have all this data to back up that JUST an exhaust will get you very little gain.

I suppose the smart money is on not JUST upgrading the exhaust, but I do appreciate their honesty.

This looks like way more fun to me. And cheaper too. (Not my car, but I've driven it quite a bit). Changes for this require bigger exhaust, slightly bigger turbo.

Are they going to built in Mexico again to keep costs down? Mk7 Golf hatches are already plentiful here in Europe, but I've seen the wagon already as well.

Only at 8k miles on the odometer at this point. None to speak of :)

My god, it makes a beautiful sound around 5-6k rpms.

If the Mexicans build 'em as good as they did my 2010 TDI...I'd have another in a heartbeat. That car never rattled, never squeaked, never gave me a moment's trouble...
